Join the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts Team

Founded as a settlement school in 1912 by the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, Arrowmont is a national contemporary arts and crafts education center supporting learning opportunities for individuals of all skills levels and ages. Students work and learn in state-of-the-art studios from expert instructors who are professional studio artists or university professors. Arrowmont offers weekend, one-and-two-week workshops in a range of media including: clay, wood, metals, textiles/fibers, enamels, glass, drawing, painting, photography, paper, and bookmaking. Arrowmont is located on 13 acres in the heart of Gatlinburg, TN only minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The heritage of the School is rooted in an approach that builds on traditional arts and crafts—150 national workshops are offered annually, a full complement of community classes, children’s classes, and ArtReach provides a day of art to over 1,000 local public school children annually. The School hosts revolving exhibitions in three major galleries, and offers symposia and conferences. The Artist-in-Residence program provides early career, self-directed artists time, space and support to experiment and develop a new body of work in a creative supportive community. Each year, five artists working in different media are selected to participate in the 11-month program and are given a monthly stipend, housing, meals and studio. Arrowmont offers a range of support to those whose financial situation might preclude them from attending ranging from full tuition scholarships to work-study opportunities to educator and local resident scholarships. The work-study student is an integral part of Arrowmont’s operations and provides an opportunity for people with limited financial resources to participate in classes. Educational assistance is provided to the student as a part of the Program. Students receive class tuition, housing, and meals during their work-study commitment. Educator scholarships provide 50% of workshop tuition for one workshop per educator per year and is open to any educator regardless of discipline. K-12, technical school, community college, college and university faculty are eligible. East Tennessee residents receive a 50% tuition scholarship.
