Job Description:

Responsible for the local operation of the National Breakfast, Lunch, and After School Snack Program for each school cafeteria.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional behavior, appearance, and work ethic to represent the school district in a positive manner at all times.
  • Plan menus which meet Federal and State requirements including serving food in a safe and sanitary way that meets the nutritional needs of the students. Prepare food by standardized recipes and procedures, and serve in standardized portions.
  • Purchase food, supplies, and equipment needed in food service in quality and quantity needed. Reconcile monthly statement from vendors, and approve for payment.
  • Manage USDA commodities and keep accurate records of commodities received, amount used, amount on hand, and request commodities monthly.
  • Reconcile monies from each school daily and make bank deposits. Maintain daily breakfast, lunch, and after school snack count records. Prepare end of month reports for monthly reimbursement. Keep all records required by Federal and State.
  • Ensure and promote high standards of sanitation, comply with the local and state health regulations, and codes of sanitation.
  • Provide management of personnel to include keeping time/attendance records for employees and subs. Interview personnel and recommend hiring, provide outline of duties, and scheduling.
  • Promote good public relations with students, faculty, and parents.
  • Evaluate the operation and correct any deficiencies.
  • Oversee the operations of a Summer Feeding Program for students who attend summer school, and any other children between the ages of 1 and 18 years.
  • Attend state conferences and workshops.
  • Responsible for funds and high-value equipment.
  • Manage subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Food Service Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable regulations of the Arkansas Department of Education.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees.
  • Plan, assign, direct work, and appraise performance.
  • Address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree (A.A.) from two-year college or university or more;
  • Must pass federal and state background checks.

Work Environment:

Most job responsibilities for this position are in an indoor school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills. This job position may experience periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Some lifting, pushing, and pulling may occasionally be required as part of the job.
